Health, Safety & Environment

Safety is Non-Negotiable

At Awimax Energy Limited, Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) is not a department — it is a company-wide culture embedded in every project, every process and every decision we make. We operate under the principle that all incidents are preventable, and that zero harm is an achievable standard.

Our HSE management system is aligned with international standards including ISO 45001 (Occupational Health & Safety), ISO 14001 (Environmental Management) and the DPR's Health, Safety and Environment Guidelines for the Nigerian petroleum industry.

HSE Safety

HSE Pillars

Safety Leadership

HSE responsibility starts at the top. Our management team leads by example, actively participating in site safety inspections, hazard reviews and toolbox talks.

People & Training

Every Awimax employee and contractor receives mandatory HSE induction and role-specific safety training before commencing work on any site or project.

Risk Assessment

All work activities are preceded by systematic hazard identification and risk assessments (HIRA), job safety analyses (JSA), and permit-to-work (PTW) processes.

Emergency Preparedness

We maintain documented emergency response plans, conduct regular drills and ensure all project sites have emergency communication systems and evacuation procedures in place.

Environment Protection

We implement robust environmental management practices on all projects, including waste management, spill prevention and containment, and environmental impact minimisation.

Reporting & Learning

We promote a culture of open reporting — near misses, incidents and observations are investigated and shared across the organisation to prevent recurrence.

Our HSE Policy

Awimax Energy Limited is committed to conducting all operations in a manner that protects the health and safety of our employees, contractors, clients and the communities in which we operate, while minimising our impact on the environment.

We will:

  • Comply with all applicable health, safety and environmental legislation, regulations and standards, including DPR guidelines and international HSE standards.
  • Establish and maintain clear HSE objectives, targets and management programmes to continually improve our performance.
  • Conduct thorough risk assessments for all project activities and implement effective control measures to eliminate or minimise hazards.
  • Provide adequate resources for HSE training, equipment and systems to support safe working practices.
  • Investigate all incidents, near misses and HSE non-conformances promptly and thoroughly to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
  • Engage our supply chain in meeting our HSE standards through pre-qualification, monitoring and review of contractor performance.
  • Communicate our HSE policy to all employees, contractors and stakeholders and make it available to the public.
  • Review and update this policy periodically to ensure it remains relevant and effective.

The Managing Director and senior management team are accountable for the implementation of this policy across all Awimax operations.

Regulatory Compliance

All our projects are executed in compliance with Nigerian regulatory requirements and international industry standards:

  • DPR (Department of Petroleum Resources) Health, Safety & Environment Guidelines
  • ISO 45001 Occupational Health & Safety Management Systems
  • ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems
  • NFPA (National Fire Protection Association) standards for fire protection
  • API (American Petroleum Institute) standards for oil & gas construction
  • ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers) codes for pressure vessels and piping
Quality Management

HSE Training & Competency

We invest in continuous HSE training to ensure every member of our team is competent, prepared and empowered to work safely.

Induction Training

All new employees, contractors and site visitors receive a comprehensive HSE induction covering site hazards, emergency procedures, PPE requirements and reporting obligations.

Technical Safety Training

Role-specific training including permit-to-work, gas testing, confined space entry, working at heights, hot work, fire-fighting, first aid and manual handling.

Emergency Response Drills

Scheduled fire drills, spill response exercises and medical emergency simulations are conducted on all project sites to test preparedness and identify gaps.
