Awimax Energy Limited's electrical and instrumentation (E&I) team has completed the installation and commissioning of a full SCADA-ready control room system for MOB Integrated Services' LPG storage and distribution facility, marking the delivery of one of our most sophisticated instrumentation projects to date.
The control room serves as the nerve centre for MOB Integrated Services' LPG facility operations, providing operators with real-time visibility and control over all critical process parameters including storage tank levels, pump operation, LPG filling operations, safety system status and facility-wide alarm management.
Scope of E&I Works
The electrical and instrumentation scope delivered by Awimax's E&I team for this project included:
- Design, supply and installation of the main control room and operator workstations
- Distributed Control System (DCS) integration for process monitoring and control
- Plant-wide field instrumentation — pressure transmitters, level gauges, flow meters and temperature sensors
- Fire and gas detection system integration — flammable gas detectors, heat and smoke detectors, manual call points
- Emergency shutdown (ESD) system design and installation
- Power distribution boards, motor control centres (MCCs) and variable speed drives
- Earthing and lightning protection systems
- Cable routing, installation and termination
- Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) and final commissioning
Safety-First Design
The electrical systems were designed with safety at the fore, consistent with Awimax's HSE philosophy on all LPG and petroleum facility projects. All electrical equipment within the hazardous area zones is rated for Zone 1 or Zone 2 as appropriate, in accordance with IEC 60079 standards. The fire and gas detection system is fully integrated with the ESD system to provide automatic plant shutdown in the event of a gas leak or fire.
The control room building itself is designed as a blast-resistant structure positioned in a safe area, with pressurisation systems to prevent ingress of flammable gas — protecting operators and ensuring a safe working environment at all times.
Instrumentation Capabilities
The facility's instrumentation suite gives MOB Integrated Services' operations team the data and control they need to run the facility efficiently and safely. The SCADA-ready architecture means the system can be expanded in the future to integrate with higher-level enterprise systems as the facility grows.
The successful delivery of the MOB Integrated Services E&I package further establishes Awimax Energy as one of Nigeria's leading EPCIC contractors with demonstrated capability in sophisticated electrical and instrumentation systems for LPG and petroleum facilities.
